2017-18 CACNY Board Establishes New Roles and Prepares for the Year Ahead

As a 100 percent volunteer and member driven organization that is also a 501 c(3) certified non-profit corporation, CACNY's elected leadership works to advance the mission of the organization and strengthen the reach and impact of its membership.  With the election of new members to the Board of Directors, CACNY continues a proud and important tradition of being the voice and vehicle for membership engagement and empowerment toward college access and success for all.

 

Congratulations to the following newly elected members of the CACNY Inc. Board of Directors:

 

Emmanuel Moses: CACNY Treasurer – Manny, who is currently Senior Manager of College Guidance at The Opportunity Network, will maintain and account for the organization’s funds and financial operations as Treasurer.  Manny will also serve as liaison to the Scholarship Committee. Dawan Julien: CACNY Vice Chair of Development – Dawan, who is currently Managing Director for Out of School Time at East Harlem Tutorial Program, will work on growing CACNY's funding ability and capacity through foundation, grant, and collaborative partnership opportunities as CACNY’s first Vice Chair of Development. Jessica Sasko: CACNY Secretary – Jessica, who is currently Director of College Supports at NYC Outward Bound Schools, will continue to maintain and improve the documentation of internal and external meetings in addition to working to establish an archive of CACNY’s historical accomplishments, procedures and events as Secretary. Latiqua Washington: CACNY Vice Chair of Special Events – Latiqua, who is currently Coordinator for Success Programs at New Settlement Apartments College Access Center, will continue innovating CACNY's signature special events while adding a new dynamic of member support and engagement as Vice Chair of Special Events.  Questions, suggestions, and concerns should be shared with Latiqua by using the following email address: events@cacnyinc.org

 

These new Directors join the following recently re-elected Board of Director members:

 

Camille Hall: CACNY Board Chair – Camille, who is currently Manager of College Readiness for the Internationals Network for Public Schools, continues to serve as CACNY Board Chair. In this role, Camille will work to elevate CACNY to new heights by representing CACNY across the city, region, and nation in addition to providing board and general body meeting leadership.  Questions, suggestions, and concerns should be shared with Camille by using the following email address: chair@cacnyinc.org

 

Malika Harris: CACNY Board Vice Chair – Malika will work hand in hand with Board Chair Camille to elevate CACNY’s branding and recognition across the city while improving internal procedures, operations, and the organization By-Laws as CACNY’s first Board Vice Chair.  Questions, suggestions, and concerns should be shared with Malika by using the following email address: vicechair@cacnyinc.org

 

Danny Tejada: CACNY Vice Chair of Policy and Advocacy – Danny, who is who is currently Director of College Counseling with College Bound Initiative (Young Women's Leadership Network) at Holcombe L. Rucker School of Community Research and Longwood Preparatory Academy, will work across a number of sectors to establish CACNY and its membership as a knowledgeable and influential constituency at the local and regional levels as Vice Chair of Policy and Advocacy. Newly elected and re-elected Directors will join the following talented Directors:

 

Candice Clawson: Vice Chair of Success – Candice, currently Director of Undergraduate Affairs with Prep for Prep, will continue to serve as Vice Chair of College Success. In this role Candice will be the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and CACNY’s College Success Network. She will also work with other organizations and within CACNY on issues impacting college success, persistence, and career readiness.  Questions, suggestions, and concerns should be shared with Candice by using the following email address: success@cacnyinc.org

 

Ralph Johnson: Vice Chair of Meetings – Ralph, currently Senior Director for College Success at Democracy Prep Charter Schools, will continue to serve as Vice Chair of Meetings. In this role, Ralph will seek to continue innovating and elevating the content and exposure of CACNY meetings for more members. Additionally, Ralph will identify new CACNY member locations to host its growing monthly membership meetings. Tania Ortiz-Ashby: Vice Chair of Membership – Tania, currently Senior Program Director and Communications Associate with the Partnership for After School Education (PASE), will continue to serve as Vice Chair of Membership. In this role, Tania’s efforts will be focused on growing, retaining, and strengthening CACNY membership through continued improvement of member outreach and engagement.  Questions, suggestions, and concerns should be shared with Tania by using the following email address: membership@cacnyinc.org

 

Shameek Robinson: Vice Chair of Communications – Shameek, who is currently Director, K12 Services for the College Board, will continue to increase the transparency and communication of CACNY through its listserve, website, and the use of social media and other forms of communication as Vice Chair of Communication.  Questions, suggestions, and concerns should be shared with Shameek by using the following email address: communications@cacny.org  

 

Marilyn Sommer: Board member emeritus – Marilyn, currently College Access and Success Coordinator/Clinical Supervisor, with NYU Metro Center’s College Prep Academy/1199 Workforce Program, as well as an Independent Consultant/Trainer, will serve as Board member emeritus.  As Board member emeritus, Marilyn will bring a wealth of organizational experience to benefit CACNY, and its board members, as they begin their work supporting the membership, mission, and students of New York City.
